The Treasurer of the Deanwood Citizens Association (DCA) serves as a key executive board member responsible for the overall financial management of the organization. This volunteer position oversees the fiscal integrity of the DCA by maintaining accurate and complete financial records, monitoring all income and expenditures, and ensuring compliance with the Association’s established policies and bylaws. Additionally, the Treasurer collaborates with fellow officers to establish and implement fiscal policies, support long-term financial planning, and enhance the Association’s capacity to fulfill its mission.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

The Treasurer, handling the finances of the Organization, shall:

  • Maintain all financial records, including showing receipts, disbursements, balances, locations of bank accounts, and other pertinent financial information of the Association.

  • Sign all checks.

  • Prepare the budget for the year and present it to the Association.

  • Collect all dues and other income of the association;

  • Disperse all funds and ensure that bills are paid in a timely manner.

  • Provide monthly financial statements to Executive Officers and the general body at monthly meetings.

  • Promote membership in the Association and organize improvement projects or other activities to further the objectives and purposes of the Association.

  • Train the incoming Treasurer.

General Duties and Responsibilities: 

The general duties and responsibilities of the Executive Officers of the Association are:

  • Setting policies for the association's operation and ensuring the provisions of the organization's Constitution and bylaws are being followed. 

  • Setting the organization's overall program from year to year and engaging in longer-range planning to establish is General course for the future

  • Establishing fiscal policy and guidelines with budgets and financial controls.

  • Ensuring adequate resources are available for the activities of the organization through direct Financial contributions and commitment to fundraising. 

  • Developing and maintaining a communication link to the community, promoting the work of the organization.

  • Preparing an agenda for executive officer meetings and general body meetings. 

  • Each officer should be consulted on what needs to be covered in the general body meeting for that month.

  • Ensure that every Association member has the opportunity to speak and have their views heard during meetings.

  • Officers should remain impartial at all times.

  • Make sure members and guests are comfortable, feel welcomed, and are engaged at meetings and events.

  • Maintain an officer's notebook of pertinent information to facilitate successful officer transitions.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess demonstrated experience or knowledge in bookkeeping, accounting, budgeting, or financial administration, along with a strong commitment to ethical financial stewardship. The position requires integrity, discretion, and reliability, as well as the capacity to work collaboratively with fellow officers and members to support DCA’s mission, values, and community goals. Prior experience in a nonprofit, civic, or community-based organization is preferred but not required.
